Separated at Birth

Written by Michael. No comments.

Been rather busy with projects, so excuse the lack of posts.

Working on a lookbook today for Jackstraw down on First Avenue here in Seattle and had to post these outtakes.

Should mention that John, the gentleman on the right, was kind enough to ask me for some of my photos to put up in the store. If you’re in the neighborhood, come through and check ‘em out.

I’ll have some rather great updates on recent projects and exciting personal things in the very near future so stay tuned.

So long 2010. Hello 2011 and beyond

Written by Michael. 1 Comment.

2010 has been a great year for me:

1) got married to the most beautiful woman in the world.

2) been making great headway with my photography after my trip to New York.

(above is my first feature! shot for Benjamen Purvis and Seattle Met magazine. . . more on that in a later post.)

3) am to a point in my life where I feel super content and relaxed (sorry, I couldn’t resist using the image below for those who know my freneticism and inclination toward lateral thinking).

I’m very thankful to have a supportive network of friends, loved ones and terribly creative colleagues. I’m excited to see what the new year holds and wish each and everyone the best in 2011.

I’ve been shooting a host of new personal projects and exciting assignments, so stay tuned in the coming weeks for updates.

More soon,
Mike

New York State of Mind

Was just in New York City a couple weeks back for a whirlwind/action-packed week.

In 8 days and 7 nights, I had 50+ portfolio meetings and sit-downs to discuss the work and my newly printed portfolio.

IMG_1851

Was a super fruitful journey getting facetime with a number of industry professionals at the NYCFotoworks, PDN Reviews at the Javits and a few other meetings I was able to line up on my own.

IMG_1792

Even met up with a few advocates/industry (bald) heads.

IMG_1812

And this guy who was the absolute truth.

IMG_1857

Also made it out for NYC’s Halloween parade where I met a cast of characters.

Halloween Parade was bananas.

In an attempt to decompress from that, I sought out some old friends, acquaintances and loved ones.

Friend time with the Mittenbergs in around Chinatown and Union Square.

IMG_2092

Hung out with the Blizz to see the Giants win the World Series.

Family time with the Garcias and my mom’s sister.

Oh, and I shot a lot of trash.

And ate a lot of food.

Then wrapped it all up at the Jane Hotel.

Can’t wait to make it back. I’ll be hitting the blog with further updates and the like in the coming weeks, so keep them eyes peeled.

Photographed President Obama

Written by Michael Clinard. No comments.

Was making my way home yesterday morning after wrapping up a quick editorial job and was confronted with traffic barricade after traffic barricade in our little neighborhood of Wedgwood.

Jokingly, I asked a stander-by if the President was in one of those houses to which she calmly replied, ‘yes.’ In a move straight of Nascar, I angled the car into the first available spot and joined the droves of anxious-ites willing to brave to the cold just to get a peek of the man himself and the baby elephant he was attempting to corral for a homeowner.

Below are a couple photos. It’s my hope that one day I’ll be closer than 30 yards away when capturing this stuff. . .

IMG_1688

With a baby elephant on the loose, many folks showed up to catch a glimpse. They’d heard President Barack Obama was around, too.

IMG_1695

IMG_1717

The press junket was there looking ‘just so’ showing off this year’s must have item: laptop in transport to wherever you’re walking.

IMG_1739

Mayor McGinn was in attendance and pulled out a Larabar he had in his biking shorts.

IMG_1733

Gov. Christine Gregoire tried her best but was rushed away when her husband lobbied her for the Denny’s ‘all-you-can-eat’ breakfast buffet that ended at 11am.

IMG_1746

President Barack Obama decided he’d come out and handle it. In fact was told later by a friend, that his exact words were “hold up, I got this.”

IMG_1750

With the baby elephant back in it’s baby elephant sleeping quarters at the Foss residence, Obama decided he’d caravan over to UW’s HecEd and give a speech just for the ‘Hec’ of it.

IMG_1758

People losing their minds over the President’s ability to handle baby elephant corralling.

IMG_1759

Everyone disheartened by their inability to capture any photos of the baby elephant. Thankfully, they got a couple of the President ‘gettin’ it done.’

Bevvy of Updates

Written by Michael Clinard. No comments.

It’s been a busy summer over here at the Office of Michael Clinard. In the spirit of autumnal change, I figured it was high time to share some exciting personal news with everyone. I got married in August to my beautiful wife, Jenna!

jenna_mike_wedding_photo_web

Above is an image of us after exchanging nuptials on August 22nd at Kubota Gardens here in Seattle. She’s stuck with me for six years after our first meeting in the photo lab at the University of Iowa while she pursued graduate studies in printmaking, I in photography/intermedia. Can’t imagine life without her by my side, for she’s a continual grounding force that inspires strength and stability each and every day.

In other news, and completely under the radar, I updated the website to coincide with an upcoming trip to NYC I’ll be making for portfolio meetings. If you catch a sec hit http://www.michaelclinard.com to see the website refresh.

Above is the virtual Rosetta Stone of the image names that made the cut and those that have now found their way into the archives. Many thanks to all who’ve been beta-testing it and lending thoughts, suggestions and ideas. Much appreciated.

Outside that, I recently made a trek through Eastern Washington to visit a sight I’ve longed to see since childhood: The Grand Coulee Dam. Hope you enjoy taking a gander at some of the images below.

Grand Coulee Dam itself. Walked out on to the edge of a cliff to nab this one. The visitors were awestruck by my dedication to capture an unfettered view of the dam.

Official historical marker that looks like it’s been taken a time or two.

Masonic blood drinking rituals and the like

Yeah that’s me in a Masonic Grandmaster’s Hat. Don’t look too hard as my brain explodes after this. . .

Sorry I’ve been incognito as of late, but I’m back in full force. February has been a mad cover-up of jobs after taking January off to grieve for lost loved ones:

The pretty smiling ladies above are from the era of one Nellie Mae Pittman who passed in late January. She was my grandmother and the coolest girl on two feet! She used to let me watch HBO when I was four and taught me everything I know in the kitchen. . . Much love to you Nanny!

A two-week car shoot and an upcoming Adidas job has had me buried as of late, but I’m hoping to post current projects very soon. . . Amanda, don’t kill me. . .

Confessory

Written by Michael Clinard. 3 Comments.

I figure I should post as I’m bound to catch flack from Tom Ridge-ian friends that monitor this blog with the same fervor as those that monitor our National Threat Level. Guess I’m oft-accused of slacking on things from time to time; evidenced by the few drawers I keep that are squarely designated as ‘to be dealt with much later: ‘much later’ meaning 1-1.5 years off perchance’ drawers.

1year_drawer_semifinal_web

Yeah, that’s one year of important papers you see above. My buddy and collaborator Ian Goode of Goode Studios was kind enough to make it look fly’er than first envisioned. We’re working on putting the finishing touches on it, but at my rate, you won’t see it for another year anyways. That said, I want to put it out there so as to inform the kind readership of my recent endeavors.

Outside of that, I’ve been dealing with some personal family health stuff that has me a bit out of sorts at present. Grandma and Father unit stuff. Luckily, all’s well at this moment of putting finger to key, but I suspect it’ll all soon flux in the next few days.

Finally got around to shooting an idea that’s been knocking around for quite sometime. Below is one image from the project. Wonder if you can guess what’s going on here?
